Vitiello: Milan captain back in training ahead of Liverpool clash – Thiaw still sidelined

Davide Calabria was back in full training earlier today as AC Milan initiated preparations for the Liverpool clash at Milanello earlier today. However, as a report also points out, Malick Thiaw is still on the sidelines.

Calabria picked up a slight knock to his right leg in recent days and thus missed the game against Venezia last night. Emerson Royal was the starter and with Liverpool coming up next, many were hoping for a quick recovery from the captain.

As reported by Antonio Vitiello this afternoon, this is exactly what they got as Calabria worked with the rest of the group from start to finish today. Thiaw, on the other hand, continued his personal program on the pitch and it’s unlikely that he will be back in time for the Liverpool game.

Given that Milan played yesterday, all of the starters (except for Mike Maignan) worked in the gym today while the rest of the squad was out on the pitch. The proper preparations for the big clash will thus begin tomorrow, with the game scheduled for 21:00 on Tuesday.

It remains to be seen if Emerson Royal or Calabria will be the starting right-back, though one would have to assume that the captain is the favourite.

  1. Gonna have to assign someone else to help Calabria double team Luis Dias. Calabria has been able to get the better of Kvara of late. Maybe we are lucky and he puts in a stellar performance against the Colombian.

    1. Kvara and Mpappe and most other wingers he’s gone up against.

It really should be a no brainer if he’s fit given he’s been there and done it.

    1. I am not sure it’s how he sets up his RBs but more how he sets his mid and wingers which leaves both FBs exposed, and CBs who then don’t cover for the wings (or if the plan is for the CBs or mids to cover they’re not doing a very good job).
