Vitiello: Always the same situation – Theo’s renewal talks in a state of purgatory

In the past few months, there has been repeated talk of AC Milan and Theo Hernandez’s preferences to talk about a new contract. However, there is a difference between talking and action, and it is getting painful.

Theo has certainly been a controversial figure in recent months. Starting in the summer, his contradiction of Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s words sent things spiralling, and questions were asked about his intentions.

Since then, things have calmed, especially when it was reported that new talks would begin after the closing of the mercato. However, there has been no progress made since the mercato’s ending. Instead, there have been repeated messages of intention, but no actual movement towards fulfilling those intentions.

As Antonio Vitiello writes, the Frenchman would like to stay, and consistent talks between the management and the player at Milanello suggest they feel the same way – Ibrahimovic and Geoffrey Moncada have had lengthy discussions ‘reiterating their willingness’ to extend his contract.

However, there is no movement between the club and the agents. The journalist writes that the contractual aspect has yet to begin, and there at least needs to be an offer made, from there figures, clauses, length and bonuses can be discussed. However, it is missing currently.

So Theo is stuck between words of confidence and no actions of confidence.

  1. That’s insane. They are never planning anything, always reacting. How can you not start to at least speak to the agent, considering that it will probably take months to negotiate and that Théo is one of the pillars of the team. These guys are paid to sit on their a$$ most of the time and craft with panic moves.

I don’t know if there is an award for the most incompetent management but it would be hilarious that these clowns were named the worst management in football only two years after Maldini and Massara were named the best sporting directors in the world.

    1. people blamed Maldini for loosing players on expiring contracts, we see, he wasn’t the problem. It was the rest of the people around him

  2. I think what Theo’s agent said that the rumor of an 8M salary request was a lie, is concerning because it seems like the rumor came from the club. So, this would indicate that the club is willing to part ways with Theo and is throwing these rumors out there so that they can later say that the player had unreasonable salary demands and it’s not their fault that he walked away.

Theo has been controversial, and even I, a big fan of his, am frustrated with him. His disastrous game against Fiorentina really does make a fan shake his head. Theo had done magnificent things for Milan but lately it seems like he’s becoming a negative force.

The fact that Theo has been performing just fine for the French National Team but not for Milan is also concerning; it indicates that regardless of what is said to the media, he is unmotivated when he plays for Milan and for Fonseca.

I’m starting to feel that we will lose Theo. Maybe that can even be a good thing given his recent behavior. I had never thought that I’d think so, but it is true that he is challenging the patience of fans.

Part of the blame of course should land on our amateur management. Theo was very happy while Maldini was with us. And then, it is understandable that Theo is frustrated: he is, no doubt, a world-class left back; we don’t have too many world-class players and Theo is one. However he was never compensated as such by Milan. This is actually very unfair to Theo.

Even if I’m growing frustrated with Theo, the problem is, we have absolutely nobody who can play left back like Theo can. We don’t even have a suitable deputy for him (Terracciano, oh my God, so bad! Jimenez can’t defend. Bartesaghi is unexperienced), let alone a starter if he leaves. Especially if he leaves for free; then, who would we get to replace him? It’s the Kessié situation again.

    It does spell disaster.

    1. You draw a scenario where the management is trying to push Théo out with bully tactics but then you’re upset that he’s not smiling and giving 100% (like he did since his arrival)? Even if your hypothesis is false, and I tend to agree with you as this ownership is used to play with media to push a narrative, that workplace looks toxic, there are no ambitions and Théo still didn’t hear anything about a new contract. How can we expect him to be happy after playing almost every minute for the past three-four years and still waiting to know what his future will be? Consider that Théo’s brother suffered a heavy injury, possibly career threatening.

French fans who don’t follow Milan on a regular basis don’t understand what is happening at Milan because he’s always been exemplary with France.

      1. At France, he knows he plays in an organization fit to compete for titles. They are high profile games where he can express himself. With us, we can’t say the same. This team has gotten weaker since we last won anything, significantly, with no signs from management to wnat to improve the club. That is deflating.

  3. And the 🤡 show continues. I only wonder when will real get tired of the clueless management and start demanding changes. Most of you on here don’t seem to have a problem this includes sempre milan guys who are getting paid by Gerry.

  4. We may miss some production, but nobody will miss the childish Theo. Milan can find a left back who doesn’t divide the team and disrespect the club.
