Watch: Pioli explains why injury crisis is ‘a chance for everyone’ at Milan

By Isak Möller -

Stefano Pioli was very happy with AC Milan’s performance in the 3-1 win, as they managed to end up on top despite the very tough situation. The injuries, however, continue to make it difficult for him.

Calabria, Kjaer and Saelemaekers left the pitch injured last night and with the likes of Florenzi and Messias already out for those positions, it wasn’t an easy situation. Thanks to an injury-time goal from Ballo-Toure, though, Milan got the win.

Speaking to MilanTV (see the full interview with subtitles below), Pioli shared his thoughts on the injury situation but also on what makes Milan so strong mentality-wise.

“That’s football, games can change and take different directions, but the ability to stay in the game lets you stay focused and to always believe. This was a difficult but very important win, we wanted to restart immediately after Napoli.

“I have no doubts about the squad I coach, regarding their professionalism, seriousness, willingness and their commitment. Clearly, it’s a shame to have so many injured but it’s also a chance for everyone to show that we’re a strong squad.

“During my meeting with the team before the game, I focused on the fact that great teams stand out due to their mentality, determination, energy and intensity. We are trying to become a great team, which is the most crucial and beautiful thing,” he stated.
