Yonghong Li: “Commisso’s offer was an insult to Milan; his advisers were ignorant”

By Oliver Fisher -

Former AC Milan president Yonghong Li has branded Rocco Commisso’s offer to buy the club as an ‘insult’, hammering his ‘ignorant’ advisors.

Yonghong Li bought the club from Silvio Berlusconi in April 2017 under the name Rossoneri Sport Investment Luxembourg, but he defaulted on the repayment of loans and Elliott Management subsequently took control.

At the time it was reported that Rocco Commisso, an Italian-American businessman, made an offer to buy Milan but in the end he turned his attentions to Fiorentina and purchased them.

Commisso then hit out at Yonghong and Milan’s Chinese ownership for their handling of the club in a recent interview, and during an exclusive chat with our correspondent Vito Angele, Yonghong hit back.

“What Commisso offered was a joke and an insult to us, especially to such an important club as AC Milan regardless of whatever he said in the press. Maybe he was misled by his advisors who were potentially really arrogant and ignorant,” he said.

“We didn’t want to waste our time when we had more important things to do and better offers to negotiate. President Berlusconi was sad when he sold Milan, like me.”
