Zoff questions Donnarumma’s decision: “What does going to PSG change?”

By Isak Möller -

Gigio Donnarumma decided not to renew his contract with Milan, which will expire at the end of June, and is now one step away from joining Paris Saint-Germain. A decision that many football legends have questioned.

Dino Zoff, the Italian goalkeeping legend, is the last in line to do so as he was interviewed by Radio 24 (via MilanNews). Considering that Milan are now back in the Champions League, the decision to leave baffled the 79-year-old.

“Donnarumma? He’s on an extraordinary path to becoming a great player. I don’t want to judge the decision of leaving, but what does going to PSG change if you’re already at Milan? Maybe he got some more money, but at 22 I don’t think it should be the most important thing,” he stated.

According to L’Equipe, Donnarumma will earn €8m net per year at his new club, which is roughly the same amount Milan offer (€7m plus €1m in bonuses). With that in mind, the reason behind the No.99’s decision isn’t exactly more clear.

Either way, both Donnarumma and Milan have moved on. The Rossoneri quickly secured Mike Maignan, a very good goalkeeper, from Lille and they got him for just €13m. Therefore, it was even the cheapest option.

  1. He’s ungrateful and wicked he just don’t want Milan to gain anything from his sale after all that Milan had done for him he choosed to pay them back like that,we leave him to God.

    1. We should not berate someone for wanting loftier opportunities than the hopes and dreams that Milan is offering, currently. And we leave them to their own decisions, “gods” have no place in our beautiful game.

  2. He is no one Milan is above everyone, now magnan is better than dolla rumma ,he is better move China he may earn more money

  3. I’m afraid it’s purely about the money, Dino. When you were playing, loyalty to your club mattered – today’s generation of players largely don’t care which club they play for as long as their making their dollars. I predict that Donnarumma will end up in Qatar or China, washed up but earning millions, by the time he’s 30.

  4. It’s pretty clear that the game was played for the agent’s commission. Such a shame for the player letting his agent manipulating him.
