Former AC Milan captain Massimo Ambrosini has given his thoughts on the rumours that Investcorp are set to buy the club, and even recommended a couple of targets.
Ambrosini gave an interview to La Gazzetta dello Sport about the idea of the Rossoneri swapping American owners for ones from the Gulf, and in particular what they will do with regards to the management and who will remain.
“Today Milan are a club with the accounts in order, competitive again. I hope that the guarantees that Investcorp has given to the current ownership go in this direction and that we can finance a growth process,” he said (via MilanNews).
“Among Elliott’s merits is that of having chosen the right men. Maldini and Massara have built a top team, making the most of the material available. Pioli has done the same. leading the group with a clear and always proactive game idea.”
As is natural when there are rumours of a rich fund from the Middle East taking over, speculation explodes about the mercato business that might follow. La Gazzetta have been particularly vocal about a €300m budget that the Rossoneri have to spend with a number of targets already linked from Benfica’s Darwin Nunez to RB Leipzig’s Christopher Nkunku and Roma’s Nicolo Zaniolo.
When asked who Milan should pursue in the summer, Ambrosini backed the suggestions that the paper made.
“Revolutions are not needed: the base is excellent and must be reinforced by strengthening the areas of the pitch where Milan have suffered the most. A right winger, a playmaker and a center forward,” he said.
“I like Darwin Nuñez of Benfica, but everything will depend on what amounts are invested. Nkunku of Leipzig is another profile that teases me.”
I hope they listen to Massimo 🙏
Well done Ambrosini. Perfectly said IMO. M&M and Pioli have done wonders with limited resources. Nunez, Nkunu, De Keletare, Kamara, Boatman, Origi and a back up LB and we are set.
