Assessing Milan’s squad as things stand: To stay, to leave and uncertainties

It has been a very lively start to the summer for AC Milan, with some stars heading out the door, and more is expected to come. With that said, what is the current status of the Rossoneri squad?

The 2024-25 season forced Milan to change direction completely, appointing the likes of Igli Tare and Max Allegri for a more classic Serie A approach. However, while the goal for next season is clear, it has resulted in a lot of movement on the mercato.

Status of Milan’s current squad

Taking a look at the squad as things stand, it feels a bit chaotic and as such, we have divided the players into three different categories: To stay, uncertainties and to leave. Granted that a lot can change on the mercato, at least this gives us a semi-good picture.

To stay

The fact that there are only ten players in this category says a lot about the summer so far, with the management reconsidering the future of almost every player in the squad. Maybe you could even argue that Pavlovic isn’t safe, which would take the number down to nine players.

  • Marco Sportiello
  • Lorenzo Torriani
  • Matteo Gabbia
  • Alex Jimenez
  • Strahinja Pavlovic
  • Warren Bondo
  • Youssouf Fofana
  • Christian Pulisic
  • Rafael Leao
  • Santiago Gimenez

Uncertainties

Maignan appeared destined to leave the club but after Chelsea refused to increase their offer, a stay cannot be ruled out. Emerson Royal, meanwhile, is a player Milan would love to offload but it remains to be seen if any clubs are interested (he has only just come back from a long injury).

  • Alexis Saelemaekers
  • Luka Jovic
  • Noah Okafor
  • Ismael Bennacer

To leave

Finally, from the loanees that won’t be redeemed to outcasts, there are some players who most definitely will leave the club this summer. Musah, for example, appears to be just one step away from Napoli.

  • Alessandro Florenzi (contract expires)
  • Kyle Walker (loan expires)
  • Tammy Abraham (loan expires)
  • Riccardo Sottil (loan expires)
  • Joao Felix (loan expires)
  • Pierre Kalulu (has left)
  • Marco Pellegrino (has left)
  • Tijjani Reijnders (has left)
  • Devis Vasquez
  • Theo Hernandez
  • Yunus Musah
  • Yacine Adli
  • Lorenzo Colombo
  • Marko Lazetic

  1. If I was Allegri I’d keep Adli Salad and Jovic. Everyone else can leave for the right price – or any price in some cases…

  2. I would keep 4: Alexis, Adli, Tomori and Jovic… we can’t sign 12 players

3-4 midfielders, a winger, 2 “starting 11 level” fullbacks, CB and GK… we need to finally fix midfield and fullbacks and results will for sure to follow

    1. And you’re such an expert. At the end of the day doesn’t goal win you matches, since you’re such an expert it’s called positioning not many players are good at positioning themselves and get goals it’s also part of football IQ. His work rate doesn’t count? Who can play on the Right better than him with better work rate for a decent price?
Some you fans have 1 working brain cells I swear

  3. Pulisic leave?! The teams highest scorer and goal involved player 2 years in a row is a trash player! Your obviously a troll who is not a real Milanista.

    1. this is what mediocre judge a players. only goals. like I said, he involved in goals because his luck, he wasn’t created it. you just a surface fan, mate

  4. this is what mediocre judge a players. only goals. like I said, he involved in goals because his luck, he wasn’t created it. you just a surface fan, mate

  5. I would sell the following (and players with 3 dots to their name i would only sell if i get a good offer for):

    Royal
    Terraciano
    Thiaw …
    Tomori …
    Bondo (Loan)
    Bennacer …
    Loftus Cheek
    Musah
    Chukwueze
    Okafor …
    Pobega
    Vazquez
    Colombo

The reasoning behind it is this:

1- we have so many players who are jacks of all trade but dont specialize in any position (eg Musah, Terracciano, RLC, Pobega). These players have played in many roles but seem to not be great at any of them.

2- since we are only competing for the league and the cup, now is the best time to start over and reduce the team size by replacing those players with quality rather than quantity (eg. Musah, Royal, etc.

3- some of these players might give us a financial base to reinvest (eg Musah for 25 mil, RLC for 15, Tomori etc)

We will need a proper rebuild in defense and midfield and im hoping that Allegri/Tare can get it right on the first try. We are desperately in need of a proper leader at the back (a modric style acquisition in defense) someone not necessarily as old as modric but someone with massive experience to lead the defense.

  6. GymGOne you obviously have a personal bias towards Pulisic. Simple mathematics tells you nobody lucks into 32 goals, 20 assists and 52 goal contributions in two seasons in one of the most competitive leagues in the world by pure luck.
