Barzagli says Milan midfielder had ‘excellent’ display against Udinese

By Euan Burns -

Former Juventus defender Andrea Barzagli has said that Brahim Diaz put in an excellent display for AC Milan against Udinese on Saturday evening.

Speaking whilst on the Sunday Night Square program on DAZN (via Milan News), Barzagli discussed how Diaz performed and what his future at Milan could look like.

The Spanish midfielder did not have a great season last year despite a very good start and now that Yacine Adli and Charles De Ketelaere are at the club, it would be easy to picture him getting even less game time.

Against Udinese though, he played a role in all four of the Rossoneri goals in the 4-2 victory. His shot led to the penalty for the first, he then played a key part in the move for the second, scored the third and assisted the fourth.

It was a display that clearly impressed Barzagli and he thinks the competition for places will be very healthy.

“Competition helps and stimulates: he started very well last year then got a bit lost,” Barzagli said.

“Against Udinese he played an excellent game, with great link-up. He’s a guy who knows how to play football. Having competition gives you an extra stimulus.”

  1. Last season at the start of the season Diaz played well for 5 or 6 games and then he go missing until the end of the season so one game does not is going to be different this season but this time i can rest at ease because we have Adli and CDK in the team!

    1. Stop spamming this. If you put in different info then it’s okay, but by spamming same shite in every brahim Diaz article you just annoy us.

If youre really Milan fan then give your opinion reasonably. When a player played poorly then its OK to critic him, but if he played good/decent then give some appreciation /encouragement. In the end it will be best for Milan if every players can play to the best of their abilities.

      Stop spamming pls.

  2. This does not play team football he is just one day wonder, he thought he was the next Messi. Street soccer is the best for him.

  3. Last season, Diaz didn’t recover from C19 too well, never getting their form or fitness back to how they went in the first few games.

Brahim Diaz has lots of potential, a great mentor group, and I hope this is his breakout season where we get 30 games of creative vision, assists, sneaky goals, and a young dude taking his opportunity.

  4. Brad is right. Forget about the doom & gloom customary nonsense babbling, the guy can play and this season will be his breakthrough.

  5. Wether he can play or not is not my problem, my problem is why are we benching our own players to play a dude who made it clear he wants Madrid? This is insane, so we will train a
player for Madrid Just to give him back cos I know Milan will not 22m for him and even if we do, 27m buy back clause is nothing for Madrid to pay any time so why are we benching our own???…….I hope this rubbish doesn’t affect Adli momentum

  6. Funny things about these jokers in the comment section is, everybody thinks that Diaz is just 1 match wonder or Diaz is just good for 5 games bla bla bla. What if Adli is also just pre season wonder? Why don’t you ever think of that? Team selection should be monitored based on their form in each match and in training, if someone is in form why try another? Unless it is rotational or fatigue issues.
I dont care who plays in starting XI. All I care is Milan will get 2nd star first. After all, it is all about winning a title, not about playing your dearly beloved player.

  7. Just keep using Rebic as a false 9 and Diaz will keep shining. Without false 9 Diaz cannot move. He is too lightweight and small against athletic defenders. But in a duo with a strong partner cleaning up space for him he is very good.
I also love the way he uses the opponent’s mistakes. He is kinda sneaky and fast with a good reaction and fights til the very end. Very good character.

  8. form is temporary , class is permanent. If you can play, it would take just one match to show it, maintaining that form depends on lots of things, psychological, physical motivations. I dont like the argument of benching him cos he is owned by madrid, we have other players at other clubs, would it be fair if they are benched, how would we get the playing time experience we sent them for? and the goal he scored on saturday, was it recorded for madrid or for milan?

    1. Yeah. Should we bench everyone with contracts running out next summer as they are potentially looking for a new club? 🙂

Also Bennacer & Leao haven’t renewed (or aren’t going to) so they CLEARLY are thinking about the new club already. Bench ’em too? =)
