Bonaventura discusses possible Ibrahimovic return and problems with young squad

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan midfielder Giacomo Bonaventura has insisted that any team would want Zlatan Ibrahimovic as rumours of a return continue.

Milan continue to be linked with a move for Ibrahimovic, and we reported last month that he is the primary target to reinforce the attack in January.

The Diavolo have struggled to score goals all season, amassing just 13 through the first 14 games of the season with left-back Theo Hernandez being the joint-top scorer along with Krzysztof Piatek, who is struggling for form.

The latest report from La Gazzetta dello Sport suggested that there are positive feelings from the Milan leadership regarding his return, with an offer of a six-month deal on the table that could become 18 months.

Now, Bonaventura has spoken to the Sky Italia microphones about the potential reunion, and MilanNews.it have transcribed a leaked excerpt.

“Ibra is a great player, a champion. I wish we he had him in the team, I think all teams would want him,” he said.

“Having said that, I don’t know what will happen. The champions are welcome in all the teams, so we’ll see what happens.”

One of the criticisms levelled at the Milan leadership’s summer recruitment was that not enough was done to add experience, something Bonaventura thinks may be playing a part in the team’s struggles.

“Surely when a player is 20 years old and has to deal with a huge stadium and with a shirt that weighs, it is normal that he may encounter some difficulties.

“Then in Serie A when mistakes are made, they pay and yes they lose points, and there is not always time to let young players grow. To win and get to the top positions in the standings, ready players are needed.”
