Bonera defends Calhanoglu amid recent transfer speculation: “We trust him a lot”

By Isak Möller -

After a bright start to the season, Hakan Calhanoglu has failed to register a single goal or assist in his last five games. Not the numbers Milan were hoping for, in other words, but the player is still important.

Calhanoglu’s contract with the Rossoneri will expire next summer and talks are currently underway to extend it. However, as has been widely reported, there is significant distance between the parties, perhaps affecting the Turk’s performances.

In our exclusive interview with Chrisitan Falk, the Bild journalist revealed that there is a ‘90% chance’ that Calhanoglu joins Man Utd on a free transfer. Of course, it has angered many fans, but Daniele Bonera defended him during today’s presser.

“It’s part of every player to have more or less positive moments, the contribution he gives us on the pitch is precious, we trust him a lot, beyond the numbers. We are happy with his work,” he said as cited by MilanNews.

The future of the No.10 is indeed yet to be decided but that doesn’t mean he isn’t a Milan player as of now. On the other hand, the Turkish international will have to step up in order to keep his spot in the starting eleven.
