Bonucci: “We’re with Montella. Missing the Juve game? It’s destiny…”

AC Milan captain Leonardo Bonucci has insisted that the players are behind Vincenzo Montella despite a run of bad results.

The Rossoneri sit in the bottom half of Serie A with no win in four league games; a patch of form compounded by 0-0 draws at home to AEK Athens and Genoa in the last week.

Rumours state that Montella may finally be on thin ice, with Paolo Sousa reportedly being lined up. However, Bonucci is fully behind his boss.

“The Coach is always the one who gets attacked,” Bonucci told Premium Sport at FIFA’s The Best awards.

“We’re with Montella and we’ll recover, we have to all stick together. There’s work to be done in building the squad.

“The project is there, now it’s up to us on the pitch.”

Bonucci also spoke about his red card incident on Sunday, in which he was adjudged to have elbowed Rosi and given a straight red following a VAR review.

“My elbow gesture was unintentional. I’ve clarified to Rosi [Genoa player]. Now I’ll miss the Juve game, it’s destiny.”
