Calabria comments on ‘ugly’ pitch but admits Milan need to ‘exploit’ their chances

By Isak Möller -

Milan turned to their defenders yet again this evening, although not for what we are used to seeing them do. Just like against Parma, when Theo Hernandez scored both goals, the defenders stepped up again goal-wise.

Davide Calabria was one of the goalscorers, firing from long range to beat Mattia Perin in goal. The full-back also played very well throughout the game and earned the MOTM award in our ratings, which you can read here.

It was the full-back’s first goal of the season and he has certainly regained his spot at the top of the pecking order. In an interview with DAZN, as cited by MilanNews, he spoke about the game and the difficult conditions.

On the result: “A complicated game, the pitch was ugly and heavy. We also have many absences. We have had many opportunities and we need to exploit them more. Lately, we haven’t been able to score immediately but then we are good at recovering.”

On his form: “I’m fine physically and mentally, I’m trying to repay the coach’s trust. The continuity, the trust, the moment of the team, the desire for revenge, are all things that have led me to improve. Then the more you do well, the more you get excited.”

What Pioli asks of them: “For him, the key thing is to not give up and continue as we are doing. It’s not easy, we have a lot of important players out there. It’s essential that everyone put out something more, we must continue this positive streak we are having if we want to reach the top.”

The Rossoneri will take on Sassuolo this Sunday and thus need to regain their energy quite fast, hopefully with a fit Zlatan Ibrahimovic available too. Dealing with several injuries, getting the Swede back will be an important step.
