CM: Giroud’s offside and officiating duo controversy – Napoli vs. Milan is already heated

By Isak Möller -

The biggest game of the Serie A round will take place this evening as AC Milan will face Napoli away from home. It’s so important that, even though it hasn’t started yet, controversy has already emerged.

First place is up for grabs tonight, as well as a huge confidence boost, and both sides will be looking to claim the three points. Given the importance of the game, Daniele Orsato and Paolo Valeri were assigned as referee and VAR referee respectively.

As highlighted by Calciomercato.com, the clash is already heated. Milan are still upset over the Franck Kessie equaliser that was disallowed in the reverse fixture. Oliver Giroud was deemed offside in the build-up even though he didn’t touch the ball, nor did he affect the outcome.

It’s not just the Rossoneri fans that are upset, however, as the Napoli ones immediately pointed out the Orsato-Valeri duo. Back in 2018, they failed to give a clear red card to the former Juventus midfielder Miralem Pjanic, while Matias Vecino was sent off for Inter. The Napoli fans believe this heavily affected the Scudetto race.
