CM: Giroud, Ibrahimovic and the Rebic factor – Milan have reason to believe

By Isak Möller -

With just ten games left of the season, AC Milan have a whole lot to play for as they are still in the Scudetto race. Among other things, they need to keep their attacking output at a consistent level.

Prior to the 1-0 win against Napoli, Milan scored just one goal against Udinese and one against Sampdoria, which in the former case resulted in a draw. They also lost to Spezia earlier in the year after scoring just one goal.

In short, it will be key for the Rossoneri to get their attacking going consistently and there have been promising signs lately. As highlighted by Calciomercato.com, parallels can be drawn to the 2019/20 season when both Olivier Giroud and Zlatan Ibrahimovic played important roles.

Giroud, then at Chelsea, scored 7 goals in 8 games from start at the end of the season which ended in July, due to the Covid lockdown. Ibrahimovic, meanwhile, bagged 7 goals and 4 assists for Milan in the last 10 games of the season. Last season was a bit disappointing for both as Giroud lost his starting spot when Thomas Tuchel arrived at Chelsea and Ibrahimovic was out with a knee injury.

Then there is Ante Rebic, who has always stepped up in the second half of the season for Milan. In the second half of 2019/20, he scored 11 goals and bagged 3 assists. And in the final 10 games last season, he found the back of the net 6 times.

In other words, Milan have reason to believe in the Scudetto with these players available. Rafael Leao, who has exploded this season, should also be added to the mix.
