CM: Roma ‘considering’ request for Milan winger in Abraham deal – the details

By Ben Dixon -

AC Milan have re-opened their pursuit for Tammy Abraham, and a report has suggested that the Rossoneri and AS Roma are looking to include a player in the deal.

In the past weeks, the links between Milan and Abraham have regained traction, and a report from this afternoon suggested that the reasoning was down to Fonseca. When the deal for Zirkzee halted, the Portuguese coach ‘specifically requested’ the management to re-open contact with the Englishman, which shows the level of his interest.

Of course, the mercato is as much about searching for profiles as well as players themselves, but the request from Fonseca for Abraham specifically speaks volumes about his interest in the striker.

If the interest is to come to fruition, the next steps are to talk about the price of a deal and there has been interest from the Rossoneri in using a player to lower the fee, and their offer of Luka Jovic was turned down, but the door is not closed.

This afternoon, a report from Calciomercato.com has suggested that the Diavolo have gone back to the drawing board and the ‘right quid pro quo’ will hopefully be found. Furthermore, the report suggested that Geoffrey Moncada is thinking of offering Alexis Saelemaekers, Lorenzo Colombo or Daniel Maldini as part of a deal.

However, the Giallorossi are looking at a player specifically – Noah Okafor.

It would be imagined that their request is refused, given the Rossoneri believe in the Swiss forward’s future, but it remains to be seen.

  1. Not really sure why roma wants to sell Abe. Do they have another ST lined up or what?

If we believe in okafor why don’t we use him as 3rd St then?

    CM news🤨

    1. 3rd striker?

      Some belief!

If our two first choice strikers get injured for extended periods next season we’re not going to win anything.

      1. If 2 gk get injured for an extended period of time we definitely need a 4th one as well…

Use the same model on the wingers, fullbacks, cbs, cms, dm and just like that we have a squad of 50+ players. Good job. The pay bill is stacked but hey, at least we’re prepared when some injuries come, right?

        1. It’s not only the wage bill.

It’s the confused squad, its players blocking other players, it’s less time to focus on players on training, less time for players to gel, fewer minutes on the pitch, fewer minutes on the pitch with the same players, and actually more injuries because players aren’t as match ready.

You can’t win anything with a large squad. 23-25 is the max we should be aiming for and to get to that number (and to get rid of all of the other randomers like Origi) we need to sell about 20 players.

  2. My only concern now is who will be our CAM for next season? RLC did score goals, many from corners. But he doesn’t know how to connect the attack with the midfield. He knows how to run with the ball but not make key passes. Doesn’t make sense to have 3 strikers if don’t have even have a CAM

    1. You can use Pulisic for some games, he can play as a CAM. But in general it makes more sense to play in a 4-3-3, since Reijnders, RLC and even Musah were brought as mezzalas. But for that we do require a true CDM, something that Fofana isn’t. Even Hojberg doesn’t play in a 4-3-3 as far as I know.

    2. God bless you. Moreso, RLC is too slow he will be killing the tempo of an attack. You really ehoed my mind. Thanks

    3. After Pulisic, RLC was probably our best signing last season and one of his strengths was….connecting the midfield and attack…by holding up the ball and turning to trigger counters.

The issue was the absence of any midfield behind him.

      1. Rlc only connects the midfield to attack by running with the ball in to the opponent half, but then he gets confused and clueless as to what to do next so he either keeps running or shoots.he is good at holding d ball and getting out of tight spaces also a very good and strong ball carrier but lacks d vision required for an AM.

        1. There was often poor movement off the ball ahead of him.

His movement also created openings for others.

I thought he was actually excellent. But I think I’m just into players that are direct and deliver.

The Reijnders fans seem to like a technical player who doesn’t really achieve anything. Many of them didn’t like Krunic though.

It’s almost like it’s all subjective and arbitrary!

        1. Reijnders was underwhelming and contributed to our lack of midfield.

You could drive a truck through our midfield last season.

      2. Not exactly. RLC was played as the CAM by Pioli because of his runs into the box acting as an extra striker and ended up with a good goal tally for a midfielder.
However he did not link the midfield and attack with passes or use he physicality in midfield as he could have, and too many potential attacks died at his feet.
In the PSG game at home ,he was devastating but mainly drove the ball up the pitch directly not with his passing and vision.

        1. I think we have a different understanding of ‘linking’.

When he turns and drives forward that is all the linking I need!

Attacks did sometimes end up going nowhere but that was often because of poor runs from others.

Another measure I use is how many times do I find myself shouting at someone.

I didn’t shout at RLC. I shouted endlessly at Adli.

          1. Don’t get me wrong, I do think RLC was one of our better signings but probably better suited on the right of a 3 man midfield.

      1. I can’t see how Okafor hasn’t done enough to get a shot at striker…everytime he came on last season he showed incredible box awareness, converted a grest goals per minute ratio and under pressure too…give the kid a chance

        1. I think its just media trying to add some drama to negotiations. I’m sure Roma probed us about Okafor, he is good and it is obvious, but I seriously doubt our management is dumb enough to let him go for a 3rd substitute striker.

    1. How is it stupidity to exchange a player who has proven that can be a starter in serie A for a back up who can’t stay healthy and be on the pitch.
Okafor played only a 1000 minutes last season and his injury history in the last 5 years is proving that he can’t stay healthy.

        1. He had 1 bad injury. ACL injury isn’t what it was 20 years ago. Players come back as good as they were before.
Before the ACL Abraham played 53 and 54 games for Roma in his first 2 seasons in serie A.
Even if we go and say that both are injury prone, Abraham is still the better player. So how is it stupidity to swap Abraham for Okafor? It’s not like they would be swapping Okafor for El Shaarawy

          1. Is he the better player? I’m not sure. I think okafor has more potential and Tammy’s career is basically over.

It’s stupid from a financial point of view. We bought noah last season and now adios, on to the next one? We’ll just do the same to Abe after he flops except he will be harder to sell , higher salary ya kno

        1. Yeah, go look at Abraham’s injury record 😂😂

          Tammy Abraham:
          16/17 – 48 games played, 17/18 – 39 games, 18/19 – 42 games, 19/20 – 47 games, 20/21 – 32 games, 21/22 – 53 games, 22/23 – 54 games, 23/24 – 12 games played recovering from ACL surgery.
          😂😂😂

          1. He still scored 9 goals across 2 seaons in a total of 3000 minutes. I’m pretty sure Okafor and Jovic can pull that.
If we want an additionnal striker to Morata (that’s if we get him in the first place), let’s at least go for a striker who was “decent” during the last 2 seasons.

          2. @Giga94
            9 goals across 2 seasons?
He missed almost the entirety of last season because of an injury. So if you wanna count his last 2 seasons when he actually played, in 1 he had 27 goals and 5 assists and in the other he had 9 goals and 7 assists.
36 goals and 12 assists. That’s pretty decent to me.
            In those same 2 years Milan starting striker had 14 g 4a and 18 g, 7 assists.
Jovic and Okafor will provide goals if the play alongside Morata, by themselves they are not that good, as we saw last season.
Tammy can play by himself up front and provides height and physicality.
I would rather have Fulkrug as Morata’s backup. I have no problem with Okafor staying. I was just responding to a silly comment where swapping Okafor for Abraham was called stupidity even though Milan would be getting serie A starter in exchange for serie a backup, and Milan is actually getting the better of the 2 players.

          3. @Z:
The last season where he had a lot of time was 2022/23 and scored 9 goals in a total of 3000 minutes across all competition and he didn’t get the ligament tear before june. Pretty sure Okafor and/or Jovic can get 9 goals in a season if they played as much. So what is his excuse for 2022/23 ?
We’re essentially hoping he’d score as much as he did in 2021/22.
If we want another striker, might as well get one who had a recent decent form, not one who scored 9 goals in a season then missed the next one.

          4. Apart from one season at Villa his goal scoring record is average at best, if that’s where you want to hang your hat go for it…he’s also had persistent ankle problems over the years….that catches up. If he was all that why would Roma be willing to sell as well as losing Lukaku? It’s just another cheap moneyball move

        2. @Drew so is the issue that it is a cheap Moneyball move or that Milan should not swap the other cheap Moneyball move for another?
Abraham would be coming in to be a back up, not a starter. Milan wouldn’t be swapping Leao for Abraham but, Okafor.
You are bringing up Abraham goal scoring record but what Is Okafor’s. In his career he has scored only one time more than 10 goals and he played in the Austrian league on by far the best team. The England Championship is higher quality league than the Austrian league.
Abraham scored 27 goals for Roma in one season, it takes Okafor 3 years to score that many goals.
And @flyingturtle why don’t you post his injuries and how many days and games he missed. You keep speaking in generalities. Missing 1,2 days because of a knock compared to Okafor Missing every season at least a month at a time for muscle injury. The guy got injured celebrating a goal.
You don’t know if Abraham is the better player. Really?
Career over, while Okafor has more potential?
There is 2 years difference in age between the 2.

          1. Both are average players, but pointless to compare their goal scoring record. One is a striker, the other a winger or second-striker.

          2. The difference is that Okafor hasn’t played as a striker traditionally, but he shows characteristics of being able to….great movement, excellent box awareness, good finishing. His goalscoring record is about as good as Abraham who’s played as a striker his whole career, so why waste money signing him when we already have someone who can do the job. So why not try him in the backup role rather than spend on Abraham..Plus Okafor offers more for the team in a wide or deeper role. They are looking for cheap striker options who might get 10-13 goals per season rather than buy a proper striker…remember this summer is the summer we get our new Sheva…Pato…..😂

Okafor da lack of game time says more about Pioli than anything else

  3. This is the new Milan under Redbird – continue to pursue mediocre players, discounted players, players with injury history available on the cheap, players with no agent commissions, etc….

    What grand ambition Gerry lol

I know I know that alleged 100M we have will surely be spent on “Mister X” or was it Y, no maybe it was Z??
