CorSera: Covid emergency hits Milan hard – new centre-back pairing tested

By Isak Möller -

Just as it seemed AC Milan had managed to avoid a surge of Covid-19 cases, three more positives were announced late last night. This means that Stefano Pioli will have to make quite a few changes to the starting XI.

Ciprian Tatarusanu is the only name that has been announced by the club but reports suggest the others are Samu Castillejo, Davide Calabria, Fikayo Tomori and Alessio Romagnoli. Some key players, in other words.

In addition to the Covid cases, as highlighted by Corriere Della Sera (via MilanNews), the likes of Simon Kjaer, Ismael Bennacer, Franck Kessie and Pietro Pellegri are also out. It’s far from ideal for the manager, therefore.

During training yesterday, he tested Pierre Kalulu and Matteo Gabbia in the heart of the defence, as per the newspaper. It would be a completely new centre-back pairing, should they start this evening.

  1. highly inexperienced centreback pairing, even kjaer and kalulu pairing wuld’ve been decent but alas!!!!!
it would be better to reside with 3 man defence and two wingbacks as alexis and theo with a 2-5-3 formation. brahim, rebic and tonali in the midfield. c’mon pioli situation demands reinvention please reconsider.
