CorSera: Pioli outcoaches Sarri and sets the tone ahead of Milan-Inter

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan comfortably beat Lazio two goals to nil at the San Siro last night and that was evidenced by the Biancocelesti’s zero shots on target. It was an important boost for the Rossoneri ahead of next week.

As highlighted by today’s edition of Corriere Della Sera (via MilanNews), Stefano Pioli got everything right in the tactics for the game. The first goal came from the high press of Olivier Giroud but especially Ismael Bennacer. And then, of course, Theo Hernandez took matters into his own hands.

But the defensive solutions, such as Rade Krunic on Milinkovic-Savic and Sandor Tonali on Luis Alberto, must also be highlighted and that’s why Lazio struggled so much up front. In short, Milan and Pioli set the tone ahead of the first leg against Inter on Wednesday.

It remains to be seen if the manager will field the same XI, but a lot will depend on the condition of Rafael Leao. It’s nothing serious and as we reported this morning, the winger feels good now and it was just a precaution.

  1. We should not conceided against shiter, and score at least 1, like against Tottenham and Napoli. And in second game just go in counter attack.
Sounds good but not easy task.

    1. The problem is everyone knows that our best games is on counter attack. We’re not a good against teams who play defensive style.
I guess they won’t let us play like this and will force us to attack

  2. I don’t think sitting in the defence and waiting to counter is a good idea… we should at least have an advantage of 2 goals to sit back and defend…

  3. Massive attack, massive defense. Milan needs to score first and not leave the defense anyhow. Please, they should not be over-relied on GIROUD, ANYBODY CAN SCORE TACTIC IS NEEDED.

  4. Lol pioli did not out tactic Sarri, he just put out the best 11 with his normal game plan and hoped for the best.

  5. i wouldnt say Milan was that good it was Lazio who was very poor.. Mistakes that were made by Milan in this game against Inter they will be very punishable. Like the theo run.. noboys stoped him, they just ran alongside him. Inter will not give him that much space

    1. I agree. Pioli didn’t “outcoach” Sarri. The first goal was a gift and the second was a moment of brilliance from one of our stars.l, something that we’ve become reliant on. The Lazio game confirmed what we already know: 1. We play better against teams that come out to play; 2. We depend on Theo or Leao to make something happen.

  6. Pioli did great with his team selection and subs yesterday but I’m not too sure I would consider him to have “outcoached” Sarri. What I think ought to be considered though, is the gap in quality between the two teams. Pioli has way better players at his disposal than Sarri does, it’s just that simple.
