CorSera: The truth about a possible return for Gennaro Gattuso

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan have not made any contact with former head coach Gennaro Gattuso about a return to the club, a report has claimed.

Marco Giampaolo’s position is under serious threat despite Saturday’s win against Genoa, with the Rossoneri having made a poor start to a season in which a top four finish is vital.

We reported earlier on Sunday that Giampaolo’s future was in serious jeopardy despite Saturday’s win over Genoa, and it has since been claimed by a number of outlets that he has ‘never been more at risk’ of being sacked.

Widespread reports have claimed that Spalletti is the frontrunner to take his place, though he is still contracted to former club Inter until 2021.

Gattuso has also been linked with a return (by il Corriere della Sera) having left the club at the end of last season, though he apparently wants some key figures to leave first.

However, the same outlet (via MilanNews.it) are now reporting that there has in fact been no contact made with the former Milan midfielder.

The club instead appear to be pursuing other targets, with Gattuso having parted from the club last season in somewhat amicable terms.
