Cuenca’s dribbles, assist for Loftus-Cheek and Moncada cameo – key bits from Milan’s Raduno

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan’s first training session of the pre-season, also known as the Raduno, took place earlier today and there were many fans present at Milanello. Down below, we take a look at the key bits from the session.

Stefano Pioli spoke to the media prior to the training session and you can read his press conference in full here. At 5 pm, the players headed out on the pitch and in addition to the fans present, many were watching on from home as Milan streamed the training.

The Rossoneri played an in-house friendly, as they always do for the Raduno, and the game finished 2-2 after goals from Divock Origi (brace), Junior Messias and Ante Rebic. Ruben Loftus-Cheek, the new signing, got the assist for the first goal of the game (see highlights here).

Another interesting thing to highlight is the skills of Hugo Cuenca, the Primavera star who got to train with the first team today along with a few other Primavera players. As you can see in the video below, he almost toyed with Milan captain Davide Calabria.

Geoffrey Moncada also made a rare appearance at Milanello today, along with the newly-appointed sporting director Antonio D’Ottavio. The trio, including Giorgio Furlani, is committed to improving the Milan squad on the market as was made clear by the CEO.

Luka Romero, just like Loftus-Cheek, made his first training for Milan and scored a nice goal in the build-up to the friendly. You can see the strike in the video below, which certainly got the appreciation of the fans present.

  1. Cuenca seemed like a great talent, need to be given some minutes this season surely.

Hopefully this is just because Calabria is still return to fitness after holiday… if he stay like that when serie a start we’ll fked 😅

  2. Good flair we need to encourage academy players by syncing them into the first team , take that chance on them at least 2 players every season then see how they fair

  3. cuenca already looked promising before his arrival but even as someone who wants to keep cdk at ac milan, he actually scored a hattrick in his debut training match for us so i wouldnt put too much into those appearances of today,

      1. well as promising as he is and i do hope he joins the first team……eventually, BUT it was cdk who made a hattrick in his first training match with us so i wouldnt really expect cuenca to join it already. He is a talented player nevertheless but its not like all the players is up in gear at this point,

    1. Lol, so much for standing by players who “bleed red and black”. This guy came through the academy and is captain. But, he’s not “good enough”, so goodbye.

      1. That’s actually good defense by Calabria, just a better offense by Cuenca.
Tricky wingers do that to the best full backs in the world.
Calabria isn’t a world beater but defensively he is much better than Kalulu. Kalulu is better going forward

        1. Doesn’t Calabria have more assists?

In fact when this Milan side were at their peak ie during our title run, Calabria and Hernandez as inverted wing backs were two of our most important players.

But hey let’s give our captain the benefit of the doubt….

    2. Kalulu is just not really good from midfield positions, with him as RB our build up suffers. Kalulu is still a good option as back up RB but he is a much better CB.

    3. So based on one 5 second clip from the first training sessions since break Calabria has already been labeled “bad at defense”.

      Some people… I tell ya… 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀

  4. Calabria had bad season cause he was out with injury for a long time. He was a beast in our Scudetto season. Slack him some will you.
