Daniel Maldini reveals why Leao makes him laugh ahead of return to Milan

By Oliver Fisher -

It will be a strange evening for Daniel Maldini as he will return to San Siro to play against his parent club AC Milan for Spezia.

The young playmaker, son of technical director Paolo Maldini, played just 239 minutes for Milan in all competitions in the 2021-22 campaign. It’s obviously not enough for a player of his age, but he did manage to find the back of the net with a very important goal away at Spezia.

That clearly left an impression as the Ligurian club then made a move to sign Maldini on a season-long loan. There was no mention of a buy-out/buy-back clause, and that is seemingly because the Rossoneri opted for a dry loan instead, meaning he will return at the end of the season hopefully as a better player.

Maldini was interviewed by SportWeek about what it will be like to return to his ‘home’ club, and he spoke about some team-mates that he knows well from Milanello, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.

“I often find myself with Leao and Saelemaekers. Rafa makes me laugh because he doesn’t think about anything. Zero, zero, zero. It’s nice,” he said.

“At first I took him and Alexis around Milan to introduce him to the city, places to go, my friends… it ended up that Saelemaekers went out alone with them. He [Leao] sprinted forward when he realised he was so strong.”
