De Ketelaere prepares for double role against Sampdoria amid Origi injury

By Isak Möller -

Charles De Ketelaere will get the chance from start against Sampdoria this evening, despite initial reports suggesting that Brahim Diaz was in pole position. And the Belgian will have a double role for AC Milan.

Divock Origi was meant to start up front but he experienced muscle fatigue during yesterday’s training session. As a result, he hasn’t been called up for the game and it seems Olivier Giroud will start once again.

Given the tight schedule, the Frenchman will certainly not play the entire game and limiting his playing time is a must. The problem, however, is that Milan don’t have another typical striker on the bench (Rebic is also injured).

This means that De Ketelaere could play as the centre-forward for part of the game, with either Brahim Diaz or Yacine Adli playing in the No.10 role. It remains to be seen how Pioli will manage the game, but it’s clear that a lot will depend on the scoreline.

  1. I simply don’t understand how there is this crisis that we dont even have a striker on the bench and marko lazetic still is not called up, let along being used. this is crazy

    1. Lazetic isn’t prolific for the Primavera. He needs to be averaging more than a goal a game at youth level to be considered for a starting spot.

    2. What I find more annoying is Pioli refusal to give new players a chance to prove their worth on the field, why is Diaz always ahead of Adil, it beyond me

      1. Diaz had been very good so far this season. This season is his chance to prove himself if he wants to be signed on a permanent basis, and it seems like he’s up for the task.

As for Adli, the situation is that because we have both CDK and Diaz for the CAM position, Pioli and the rest of the coaching staff have decided to play Adli as a central midfielder, which he is now specifically training for. I expect him to get more playing time in the coming months.

And I simply don’t agree that Pioli doesn’t give new players a chance. He absolutely does. CDK has already gotten plenty of game-time, Origi has gotten a fair bit, Pobega is starting today. Adli hasn’t gotten a lot so far, that’s true, but I think that will soon change.

  2. Liverpool seem to have offloaded us a dud. Constant fitness issues. Let’s hope if he’s fit he shows some quality on the ball otherwise getting Origi over Bellotti was a mistake.

We have far too few Italians in the squad. I’m all for getting foreigners if they are noticeably cheaper or better but Origi is neither (looking at the wages Belotti agreed at Roma)

    1. You really don’t know the situation for Italian players quality huh?

These days Italian players are mostly mediocre and overpriced.

You should ask yourself a question why not a single big club wants to recruit Belotti even after he became free.

      1. Nah.. bellotti got lot of offer in his table even before his contract expired (all rejected) and he even wait for milan until last moment but force to accept either roma last attempt or ruin his carrier. Sad for that guy.

  3. Have no fear Olivier Giroud is here …start him and we will win …I think ,and hope we score a few goals tonight ,,,yes it always not good news regarding the injuries ..But that’s the same for all teams …
we have an excellent set up ,and great management team ,and of course all squads will have to rotate as there are so many games been played at the moment with no real break ..I have confidence in our team AC MILAN ….We can also do well in the champions leauge .just look at Napoli against Liverpool ..I think we can win our group ,just love us to beat Chelsea ,and Giroud score a hat trick ..it’s Ac Milan for me .
