MN: De Ketelaere expected to start for Milan against Salzburg

By Euan Burns -

Charles De Ketelaere is set to start for AC Milan against RB Salzburg in the Champions League with minimal changes expected from Stefano Pioli.

As has been reported by Milan News today, the Belgian attacker could make his Milan Champions League debut on Tuesday night in Austria as the team search for the perfect start to the group stage.

Pioli is expected to start with the usual 4-2-3-1 system in place with the same back four as was used against Inter of Davide Calabria, Fikayo Tomori, Pierre Kalulu, and Theo Hernandez.

Ismael Bennacer and Sandro Tonali should play in the midfield as normal and then Rafael Leao and De Ketelaere will hold their places whilst one of Alexis Saelemaeker and Junior Messias will play on the right wing.

French forward Olivier Giroud should lead the line which means that there still won’t be a first start for Divock Origi since joining.

  1. I assume Dest hasn’t practiced enough with the team yet for Pioli to have the confidence to put him in on the RW position; but hopefully he will soon. Reading the article and seeing all of the names of the probably starting 11 is all very nice and good… UNTIL … you read “one of Saelemakers or Messias” and we all get upset and sick that we have such a terrible hole in our starting 11…. I hope Dest is ready to take over that starting position soon!

    1. I believe Dest and Salaemakers will make a very good combination on the right wing, with either of them as RW or RB.
That said, Salaemakers should learn to.lift his head up and work on his pass/shot accuracy.
