Di Marzio: Milan-linked defender opens talks with Juve amid expiring contract

By Isak Möller -

The former AC Milan defender Tiago Djalo, who has been linked with a return to the club, could join Juventus at the end of the season. As per a report, the defender has sanctioned his agents to open talks with the Bianconeri.

Milan signed Djalo for Sporting’s reverse team back in January 2019 and the centre-back impressed with the Primavera side. Just six months later, however, the Rossoneri sent him to Lille as part of the deal that brought Rafael Leao to the club.

Djalo has since become a very good centre-back and a starter for Lille, even though he’s currently sidelined due to a cruciate ligament tear. As reported by Gianluca Di Marzio, the 23-year-old has given his agents the go-ahead to open talks with Juventus, as his contract will expire in the summer.

Milan have also been linked with the defender in recent months, but ideally they would sign someone this month. Timing-wise, therefore, the Rossoneri might not get the chance to make a proper attempt for Djalo.

Matteo Gabbia has returned to the ranks and if another defender were to join the club this month, the centre-back position will likely not be a priority in the summer. Especially since Pierre Kalulu, Malick Thiaw and Fikayo Tomori will return eventually.

  1. very good CB is pushing it. He’s 23 with 2 supposedly good seasons at lille and never called up for national team, yet an aging Pepe does get the call up.

  2. Our competitors are strengthening big time and we are stuffing around. We will play catch up to Inter and Juve for another season or 2, that is if we can retain our core first choice players.

    1. With tomori, thiaw, gabbia, kalulu, pellegrino and simic set for next season, why would milan need a new centreback? unless any of them are sold, there’s no need for a new centreback. On a side note, if any club offers crazy money for tomori this summer, i hope milan would sign scalvini or calafiori as his replacement. And to sign ricci as regista along with zirkzee as main striker

  3. It was more a general comment rather than a new CB. You look at Inter getting Zielinski, Juve chasing this guy, great players becoming free agents, and Milan would rather opt for some obscure player somewhere or chase complicated deals running into dead ends. Our scouting / transfer deals are a problem. Are we looking at the right available profiles to keep up with the top2 competitors , if not we risk falling far behind.
