Italian transfer journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has reassured AC Milan fans that Real Madrid will not be trying to sign Rafael Leao this summer.
Speaking whilst on Sky Sport 24 (via Milan News), Di Marzio responded to concerns from Milan fans that given Real Madrid will not be able to sign Kylian Mbappe from Paris Saint Germain this summer, they will now come after Leao.
“Real will not take the winger. Mbappe was Mbappe, they will not look for Leao. We can reassure Milan fans.”
The implication is that whilst Leao is a fantastic player, Mbappe is in a different category right now as he is perceived as the best footballer in the world at this time.
That means that Real Madrid will be looking for a forward closer to that calibre which Leao perhaps can’t claim to be right now.
There is still cause for concern when it comes to Leao because whilst he has not expressed any desire to leave, there are Premier League teams very keen to sign him.
Well, I hope he’s right. This guy is not a guesser, on the contrary, he is really an insider, and in general what she says in one way or another ends up happening.
Madrid not but what about PSG, City, or Totenham? They clearly have the money.
Those three teams also have more need for a left winger (OK, maybe not Man City, especially if Sterling stays). Madrid spending a fortune on a left winger when Vinicius Jr is playing so well would be madness, even by their standards.
Doubt Peao would choose Totenham. Or that Totenham would be able to spend 150m.
Maybe PSG, smaller possibility yet mancity.
Real has Vini as leftwing starter, but aging midfield. They will have to give 80m to Monaco.
Could really Leao agent playing for higher wage / signing bonus.
I agree Spurs are unlikely to pay 150m but they are likely to spend decent money this summer, partly to keep Conte and partly because they’ve just gotten a decent investment (https://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/news/2022/may/club-announcement-tottenham-hotspur-limited-agrees-a-150m-capital-increase/)
They can spend that if they want, especially if they sold any of their stars, but I think it would be unlikely, agreed.
I think the only clubs that would spend the sort of money it would take to buy Leao this summer would be Madrid, Man City, PSG, Man Utd, maybe Chelsea.
That said, if he refuses to sign a contract, I would hope the club take whatever they can get for him, even if it’s closer to 70-90m. I know not everyone will share that opinion.
Lol. Peao.
