Di Marzio: Milan all-in on Thuram as West Ham striker gives priority to Roma

By Isak Möller -

Gianluca Scamacca has been linked with a move to AC Milan over the last few weeks but it seems the latter are fully focused on Marcus Thuram. In fact, Scamacca has now given priority to Roma, a report claims.

Milan are looking for a striker ahead of next season after the departure of Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Divock Origi and Ante Rebic could also leave the club this summer, meaning at least one striker will be needed.

Milan are in advanced talks with Thuram, who could join on a free transfer, and a decision is expected very soon from him. Due to this negotiation, the Rossoneri have not been able to move for their Plan B Scamacca, who now appears poised to join Roma.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, as cited by MilanNews, Scamacca has given priority to Roma and a meeting will take place today. Only the okay from West Ham is missing for the loan deal and it seems Milan will miss out on the former Sassuolo man.

    1. nothing. Milan didnt even begin talks with west ham or scamacca… Roma has. Abraham is out ’till jan so they went straight for their target ST

      1. Exactly. We just move too late. Simmilar with Ndicka he already promised Roma to join them by the time we approached him.

        1. Again with Ndicka. People act like we just lost the holy grail. We weren’t interested before because we don’t need a CB right now. We have other problems. Then they fire Maldini and Massara and suddenly we want Ndicka. We didn’t move “too late” in the sense that this had been a concrete target and we did nothing, it was a new decision by new management at a time where he was already virtually committed to Roma.

Then as to Scamacca, we’re clearly negotiating hard for Thuram. Why would these guys negotiate equally hard for another striker? You risk alienating either. What happens if they both accept? Which one do you then tell to piss off? It would be poor form and other clubs would become weary of negotiating with us if we just went around working on deals only to be like “oh nevermind” when it came to to sign. People don’t like getting their time wasted.

          1. Well Ndicka is the most recent example of Roma beating us to a transfer target, so why not mentione it when we are talking on the subject ? Dosen’t matter if Maldini was fired or not, or if we have a new management. The point is we moved to late for the last couple of targets to which Roma beat us. That was the original question, what Roma offers more in sense to why are this players going to Roma over Milan.

          2. Yes agree, we cannot just trying hard negotiate with 2 player in same hard, it will be awful if both player accept in same time. Westham only want dry loan for scamacca , not worth unless if you are desperate in need striker but you have no budget

        2. We never target aouar , ndicka . Only moncada after his appoint become DS want to hijack ndicka ( Roma already negotiate for 6month ) . Roma offer 4m euro nett to ndicka & 5 years contract with guarantee salary there is no way we want give him more than roma offer , ndicka not worth that salary, his fee agent 5m euro . For scamacca , westham only want dry loan, do you want to help westham rising value of scamacca?Roma dont have choice to accept that because they have no budget transfer and their striker tammy out for 6month

        3. It is not beating , ACM never give offer to aouar. Moncada only have few days try to hijack ndicka ( Roma already negotiate for 6month) , because ACM want to hijack make Roma offer 4m euro nett with 5 years contract and fee agent 5m euro fot ndicka . Do you really want to offer 4,5m euro nett to beat roma offer? That will causing jealous on other defender like tomori ( 3m euro nett salary) , kalulu ( 2m euro nett) , kjaer ( 1,5m euro nett) , thiaw ( 1m euro nett ) . For scamacca , westham only want dryloan , do you want to help westham raising scamacca value ? Roma accept dryloan because tammy out for 6 month and they are desperate need striker.

    2. “I don’t get what Roma Offers that we can’t.?”

An actual offer instead of waiting and thinking about making one.

    3. they over more salary (even not that big) & there also Mou, by Moneyball data Mou better than Pioli & Moneyball say many free player choose bigger salary

    1. Our moneyball experts have filtered the criteria to only show players with market value < 15 mil and or on free agent

  1. Whether he goes to Roma or not, I never loved Gianluca Scamacco too much ! Surely it would be nice to bring a few players for free or on loan, but as far as he is concerned, I honestly do not regret that he will not come to us. Will Milan be able to bring Thuram!? I think they can raise the salary offer a little bit more.

    1. The thing is we dont have the luxury to choose. The risk is to loose both players and left with only Pellegri Mk. II or Lazetic 2.0

  2. Well, we won’t get Thuram so we should give up now and go for Elye Wahi or even someone like Anastasios Douvikas before other clubs get then.

  3. Personally think we’ll rue missing out on Scamacca and there’s no chance to get Thuram, so might as well start from zero. Sorry Olivier, I’m afraid it’s all up to you again this year.

  4. Kinda getting Renato Sanchez vibes. Well wait for Thuraya too long and lose out on other targets like scamacca for instance

  5. We won’t get Thuram and Scamacca is a perfect profile for us. He’s big but still actually quick, mobile and athletic. With a good RW our attack would be miles better with him.

  6. I’m compiling a list a of Italian players, of a level of champion to Scudetto/Champions League/national team leading standard players, who had not established themselves as players by the age of 22/23 years of age. That happens to be the age of Zaniolo and Scamacca at the start of the 2022/2023 season.

I want to highlight the absurdity and historical illiteracy of the negative opinions regarding Scamacca and Zaniolo.

    1. A player close to the hearts of Milanisti, Andrea Pirlo. At 20 to 21 he was loaned back to Brescia by Inter during the 2000/2001 season. There is where Carlo Mazzone suggested a change of role to that of a deep lying playmaker because that better suited his skill set (he wasn’t quick enough to play in attacking roles). Pirlo was then transferred to Milan for the 2001/2002 season which he started as a 22 year old. He made 18 appearances in the league at 22 in his first season. It wasn’t until 2002/2003, as a 23 year old, that he was even embedded as a starting player (based on appearances – bear in mind that I can’t see how many minute he played).

    2. Christian Vieri. He turned 22 before he played his first game of the 1995/1996 season for Atalanta which was also his first season of Serie A. He was in Serie B prior to that. He scored 7 goals from 19 appearances for Atalanta in his first season (as a 22 yo). In 1996/1997, at the age of 23, he scored 8 goals in 23 appearances for Juventus. He then left, because he considered himself to be struggling, for Athletico Madrid where he had a break out season at 24 years of age, for Athletico Madrid, when he scored 24 goals in 24 appearances. Interestingly, on return to Italy with Lazio for the 1998/1998 season, he scored 12 goals from 22 appearances (which is likely tied in with injury).

    3. Luca Toni. He was playing Serie B until the age of 23/24. He put up okay numbers for a few years in the Serie A but did not have a break out year until 25/26 when he scored 30 goals in 45 Serie B appearances. He then kicked on as a Serie A player at 26/27 for Palermo starting in the 2004/20005 season when he scored 20 goals from 30 appearances.

    4. Fabio Grosso. First season of Serie A was when he turned 24. He was playing Serie C prior to that.

They’re the players who jump out at me immediately. I am sure there are many more.

    1. Just because there are previous examples doesn’t mean those two will follow their footstep. There are a lot more failures out there. Signing them would be gambling.

  7. Thuram is physically strong! And good dribbler too. He and Giroud will form excellent duo striker with support by Leao when facing defensive teams
