GdS: Brahim vs. Calhanoglu to Giroud’s tongue – five key moments from Milan’s win over Inter

AC Milan won the derby with the help of five key moments that went in their favour and helped complete a comeback victory, according to a report.

La Gazzetta dello Sport takes a look at the crucial events within the game that gave the Rossoneri some momentum after a tame start. The first is from Mike Maignan, who came about 25 yards off his line and executed a perfect tackle on Calhanoglu in the first half. Danger was foiled with a good dose of madness combined with a perfect timing.

The second incident features Calhanoglu again but this time with Brahim Diaz. The background is well known given the Turk vacated the No.10 shirt to cross the city divide and the Spaniard took it, and they clashed in the second half for around ten seconds with Brahim gesticulating and then putting his finger over his mouth to silence his former team-mate.

The third moment might be the highlight of the match, the one around which everything revolves, and it is Giroud’s shoulder against Sanchez which according to some was a foul, but the footage shows that the Frenchman got the ball before the Chilean. Milan’s equaliser came from that, and wrestled the momentum back.

Fourth is Stefano Pioli’s decision to celebrate like a madman after Milan made it 2-1. After Giroud’s second goal he jumped off the bench and ran towards the Rossoneri squad who were celebrating under the Curva Sud, and it shows how much he really cared about the result.

Finally, we end with Giroud’s celebration after the second goal, during which he turned around to the Curva and stuck out his tongue. It is a celebration like Del Piero did and served as a gesture to announce his arrival properly, by being the main man in one of Europe’s showpiece games.
