Five Milan players excluded from friendly against Lumezzane – the reason

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan will take on Lumezzane this afternoon and Stefano Pioli has decided to exclude four players from the squad, replacing them with Primavera players instead. In other words, a clear signal from the gaffer.

The friendly is scheduled to start at 17:00 CEST and it will be the Rossoneri’s first of the pre-season. The likes of Marco Sportiello, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Christian Pulisic are in the starting XI while Luka Romero is on the bench.

However, the likes of Mattia Caldara, Fode Ballo-Toure, Marko Lazetic, Divock Origi and Ante Rebic are not even on the bench. All five of them are no longer in Milan’s plans and are expected to leave this summer, hence the exclusion.

Origi is keen on staying at the club despite Milan’s clear intentions and that has made things difficult, while Rebic is on a high salary which few clubs are willing to pay. The latter also applies to Origi, but at least he might be able to keep the salary with a Premier League move.

  1. 2 assist from pulisic to Pobega tap in. Some calm from Messias and one predator instinct from Colombo to get a mistake from defender.
