Gallery: ‘Rabiot attempt’, ‘Theo and Leao doubts’ – Today’s front pages in Italy

A lot has happened in the last 24 hours hours. AC Milan announced the signing of Tammy Abraham late last night and shortly thereafter, the predicted XI for today’s clash dropped. Naturally, these were the two focus points of the newspapers this morning.

Abraham was announced by the club last night, with Alexis Saelemaekers going the other way, and he will be on the bench against Lazio tonight. Surprisingly, it appears he will be there along with team stars Theo Hernandez and Rafael Leao.

It would be a huge statement from Paulo Fonseca following the disastrous display against Parma, especially by the Frenchman. In addition to all this, it seems Milan haven’t given up on signing Adrien Rabiot on free transfer, so there is certainly a lot going on.

  1. I think we all have some doubts about the current state of Leao and Theo – Theo clearly needs to get some fitness back but easier said than done at this stage of the season, especially with so little backup.

    1. They should have signed Miranda on a free because that would give Theo second
thoughts about putting in a slack performance and offer him some rest. No competition insures that he still gets his spot in the national team and a spot in big games to showcase himself when other clubs scouts are watching. Miranda is also not a first team starter for Spain. So you know that player will not be affected by International breaks and will stay fresh. We needed him for our squad rotation.

Chiesa as well would have been perfect to rest Pulisic that plays a lot of fixtures for the US and is a main starter for them. He could start when Leao decides he rather walk and roam that press, put in work. I am not so sure going for Emerson for 18 million was a better decision. We had Kalulu already to cover for Florenzi’s injury. I would have kept 18 million in our coffers and slightly bumped the wage budget to increase the squad level given how much Inter and Juve, Roma as well strengthened, Napoli too.

Emerson will be the transfer that jeapordizes our entire campaign. We have equal talent on the books and our finances are prestine. Adding 2 salaries off of a free transfer and a lesser transfer fee for a player that has a proven track record of good performance when healthy vs one who has been a calamity in London is questionable. Theo and Leao need competition and rest more than we needed an upgrade on Kalulu and Calabria. Miranda is a good distributer and Chiesa would keep or opponents pinned in their half longer during full games, more weary of opening up to attack us…but Bankers know better, another profit and saving 8 million a year is more important.
