Gattuso: I didn’t sleep after the Benevento game

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan boss Gennaro Gattuso has admitted that he didn’t sleep after the Rossoneri suffered the embarrassment of handing Benevento their first Serie A point.

Benevento had lost all of their 14 previous Serie A games, but a 95th-minute equaliser from goalkeeper Alberto Brignoli meant they finally got off the mark.

“I didn’t sleep due to the disappointment,” Gattuso told Milan TV.

“I didn’t sleep because I was replaying the game in my head and the fact we’d started in such a bad way.

“There’s a lot of bitterness, also knowing that we didn’t play a great game, but I saw a team that was able to suffer in difficult moments and that will help us.

“We can do much more, and there were so many things we didn’t do in the right way but I liked the spirit.

“I am happy that [Nikola] Kalinic and [Giacomo] Bonaventura scored, and [Franck] Kessié played well too. We need everyone right now, even those that don’t play, and we must still get better.

“At training today I saw angry faces, it still burns. It’s normal that you look at us and say we’re not doing well, but I can assure you of the players’ commitment.

“I know that’s not enough though, and we have to get out of this situation. I’ve seen how they’ve trained though and I have positive feelings.”

“Every Sunday there are 55,000 fans. I hope their enthusiasm remains. Great players arrived and everyone expected better results. But we need the fans, I hope they understand the moment we are in and give us a hand. These aren’t clichés, I really believe it.”
