GdS: 189 days and Serbian history – the stats behind Jovic’s first Milan goal

By Isak Möller -

Luka Jovic finally bagged his first goal for AC Milan yesterday evening, scoring the opener in the 3-1 win against Frosinone. It was a great night overall for the Serbian, who will be looking to build on the performance in the coming weeks.

Milan struggled to break down Frosinone for large parts of the first half but with just two minutes to go, Jovic made the most of a failed clearance. It was a composed finish and in the second half, he assisted Fikayo Tomori for the third goal, earning the MOTM label in our player ratings.

As highlighted by today’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport (see photo below), Olivier Giroud and Zlatan Ibrahimovic were watching on from the VIP section. The goal came in Jovic’s 362nd minute on the pitch for Milan, scoring in his tenth appearance for the Rossoneri.

Furthermore, whilst breaking his goal drought of 189 days, he became the first Serbian to score a goal for Milan. Giroud will be back from his suspension against Atalanta and will most certainly start, but Jovic is now off the mark and could compete with the Frenchman moving forward.

In order to compete for the top spots, Milan will need the Serbian in good form for the rest of the season. “I’m convinced that he can be a big player for us,” Pioli said after the game.

  1. He needs more playtime to get better. Pioli needs to manage Giroud’s minutes better and Jovic needs to start more games. I mean this isn’t too complicated, right?
