GdS: Extra time scrapped in Coppa Italia due to tight schedule – the details

By Isak Möller -

The season will soon be back underway in Italy, as Lega Serie A has received the go-ahead to resume. Before the league is back, however, Coppa Italia will be decided with three games still to be played.

AC Milan will face Juventus in the second leg of the semi-final and as the first leg ended 1-1, a tough challenge awaits at the Allianz Stadium. City rivals Inter, meanwhile, will face Napoli away from home after they lost the first leg 0-1.

According to today’s edition of Gazzetta Dello Sport (via MilanNews.it), the Milan clubs didn’t like the decision to start the resumption with Coppa Italia. In an attempt to meet the needs of the teams, Lega Serie A have scrapped extra time in the competition.

In the event of a draw on aggregate, therefore, the game will go straight to penalties. There is also the possibility of moving the semi-finals one or two days, giving them more time ahead of the final which will be played mid-week.
