AC Milan were awarded two penalties in the game against Bologna last night and sensationally managed to miss both of them. However, as highlighted by a report, one of them shouldn’t have been awarded in the first place.
It was a frustrating game for Stefano Pioli at San Siro, coming back from 0-1 behind to lead 2-1 despite missing two penalties. And even after overcoming that, the Rossoneri only came away with one point after an injury-time penalty (what else) equaliser by Bologna.
As highlighted by today’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport, the first penalty shouldn’t have been awarded to Milan. Or at the very least, it was ‘extremely doubtful’. Simon Kjaer lowered his head below hip height and thus put himself in danger, as per the regulations.

There was contact with Lewis Ferguson’s leg, there is no doubt about that, but the Bologna man couldn’t do much because of the Dane’s movement. As said, the regulations state that it cannot be judged as dangerous play if the head is at such a low height.
It didn’t matter that much in the end, as Olivier Giroud missed the penalty, but Bologna manager Thiago Motta did get himself sent off for protesting the decision.
To be honest, I didn’t think the foul on Kjaer should have been a PK. His head was pretty low – at the knee level… That was a harsh call.
No qualms about the Leao or Terraciano PK’s. Both 100%.
This is never a pen for me. Completely joke of a pen…if you put a head where were u suposed to play with a leg it’s your problem
Agree that was never a penalty. The Leao one I thought was very soft too, he bought that by going down but the contact hardly impeded him. I don’t really think the Bologna one was massive either, I certainly don’t think they would have scored and if every tiny shirt pull is a penalty then every game will have 20 of them.
That’s what made the play so frustrating, he wasn’t so much pulling as just lazily holding his jersey. There was no advantage to him grabbing the jersey but if a player has a handful of shirt it should be called. A very bad play, some might say idiotic play.
B-b-but if we don’t get those penalties, and therefore don’t miss them, we can’t blame the players for this loss instead of the coach!
