GdS: Milan player ratings for Atalanta defeat – Theo and Emerson cause issues

AC Milan failed to clinch a good result away at Atalanta on Friday evening, losing 2-1, and several players could have done a lot better. Theo Hernandez is one of them, having struggled big time in the last few weeks.

It was indeed a disappointing evening for Milan, taking their foot off the gas after scoring the equaliser through Alvaro Morata. Therefore, it’s also no surprise that Gazzetta dello Sport (see photo below) gave the MOTM award to Mike Maignan at 7/10, making some very good saves in the game.

The worst, meanwhile, was Theo Hernandez at 4.5/10 as he lost several 1v1s on the left and also gave away the ball for what would have been a 3-1 goal if it hadn’t been for a fantastic Maignan save. As the captain of the team, he’s struggling a lot for the time being.

Paulo Fonseca complained about the referees but as highlighted by the newspapers, he got the approach all wrong for the game, given a 5.5/10. At least for the second half as Milan seemed content with the draw, creating nothing in attack as a result.

Gazzetta dello Sport’s player ratings

7: Mike Maignan.

6: Matteo Gabbia, Malick Thiaw, Youssouf Fofana, Christian Pulisic, Alvaro Morata, Loftus-Cheek.

5.5: Yunus Musah, Tijjani Reijnders, Rafael Leao, Tammy Abraham, Paulo Fonseca.

5: Emerson Royal.

4.5: Theo Hernandez.

  1. Managements wanted cheapy, then they get cheap result.
You’ve never seen a champion team devides the power into 3, well milan does. Ending up no one takes responsility, no one takes blame.

      1. And now Royal was roasted in a frickin corner kick. And it’s not just the flashy mistakes (every player has those) but what did he provide to excuse those mistakes ? He doesn’t shoot, dribbling is average, speed slightly above average, his crosses are poor, his decision making is even worse.

  2. Fonseca started the game with just three of our Scudetto winners/players who helped secure 2nd just a few months ago.

Of course many on here support that and show disdain for most of those players.

    Absolute disdain.

Snide comments. Over the top criticism. Calls for them to be sold, frozen out.

And what do we have to show for it?

We’re a mid-table team who thinks we’re too good for players that have delivered 3 top 2 finishes in the last 4 seasons.

Talk about a lack of identity.

  3. Theo managing to be picked as the worst on the field over Emerson so many times this season is on itself a telling sign. And he is wearing the captain armband, while requesting a doubling of the salary, which mean we’ll potentially spend more millions to watch his ineptitude. Disgusting behavior both on and off the pitch from a player who the fans loved two years ago. If Leao was benched for Okafor a few times, why doesn’t our referee blaming genius give Terraciano or even Calabria (he can fill the left back space for a game or two) a start over “captain” Theo? This kind of randomness in his man-management approach is baffling. No wonder he lost the locker room within the first few rounds. In fact, “lost” may not be the right word for it, because they never respected him in the first place and were probably more disappointed at his appointment than the fans.

  4. Wkwkwkkw LOL milan recuruited Royal, He flop player in every club, i rather thinked why must Milan bought him? There area young talented could play in right back position like Kalulu, but why Milan didn’t optimized this talent so stupid idiot

  5. The 4-2-3-1 makes life hard for players like Emerson and Theo. As the wingback travels up the field to make attacking runs, the defensive line must adjust. Kalulu’s absence is being felt.
