CM: Calls from the Azzurri – how Gattuso may have aided Milan in Chiesa pursuit

Gennaro Gattuso, a legend of AC Milan, is the new Italian National Team head coach, and he may help with the mercato unintentionally.

When Federico Chiesa joined Liverpool last summer, Milan were beaten to the post. However, the interest never died. In fact, after the first few months of Chiesa rarely getting a chance, the Rossoneri were rumoured to be looking at the possibilities.

Now, with an exit likely, the links to Serie A are present again, and with the World Cup 12 months away, players need to be playing. Perhaps, within Italy.

Gattuso’s call

As Calciomercato.com reports, Gattuso has already called the attacker, who is ready to return to Italy. Thirty players were called by the former midfielder, so we can guess that these are players who are in contention for his squad.

With Chiesa not playing, though, there could have been a hint from the former Diavolo that a return to Italy would help him, both personally and internationally. It is not the first call Chiesa has had from someone with a Milan connection; after all, Allegri has already been on the phone.

The winger has already stated that conversations need to happen with his agent and Liverpool; maybe there will be more with Rossoneri-based personnel.

  1. The only thing Gattuso is helping is for Italy to not qualify to the third consecutive World Cup.

It’s funny how the situations at FIGC and Milan are eerily similar. The media and everyone blames the broken system and the idiots running the federation as the reason for Italy underperforming, while no one (rightly) blames the players.

At Milan it’s almost the same situation with a poorly run club in a broken managerial system run by incompetent clowns, yet people turn on the players as well.

Why? it’s the same situation. Fix the broken system and the players will improve.

    1. I would disagree on this comparison. Milan actually have very talented players. Italy does not.
Take Donnarumma out and who are the world Class players? Their forwards are not good. Midfield is average at best. Barella is your best midfielder?
DiMarco is very good , Bastoni is ok but let’s be honest, Italy is not producing great talent anymore.
How many Italian players are getting in to Spain’s side? Or Portugal or France? probably none. It’s just not a very strong team.

    2. RINO Gattuso may be great though; but he still needs the inputs from the likes of Maurizio Sarri, Roberto Donadoni, Leo Bonucci and even Marcelo Lippi and Arrigo Sacchi to build the Azzurri Squad of the 1994, 1998, 2000 and 2006! My Dearest Rossoneri needs total reset just like every other Italian clubside! Every Italian Club should have at least 75% Italians to keep the Players sharpened!

  2. How in the world did Gattuso get this job? There is not a club in Serie A that would want this guy as their manager and he somehow gets the national team job…
What are you doing Italy? Trying to miss your 3rd World Cup in a row. Pioli would have been a far better choice.

  3. MK, people still think Italy have good players and that the coaches are the problem, but they don’t realize that Italy academies don’t produce the talents needed to compete with the other European countries.
Plus the Serie A doesn’t attract world class players anymore just some old glories. Now when a player has nothing to do anymore in Spain, England.. they come to play in Serie A as superstars like Cristiano Ronaldo, Tevez,Never, Dzeko, Sommer, Mikkatharian, now it’s gonna be Modric, Dhaka, DeBruyne and all that already came are still coming
