Journalist claims Milan could offer Maldini a new role if Rangnick arrives

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan are expected to make some major changes in the summer, with CEO Ivan Gazidis at the helm of the new project. In addition to strengthening the squad, Ralf Rangnick is expected to replace Stefano Pioli on the bench.

However, this will also result in some tough decision. Back in March, Zvone Boban was sacked by the club for publicly criticising the owners and their plan. His former colleague, Paolo Maldini, is also considering to leave the Rossoneri.

As highlighted by Claudio Raimondi of SportMediaset (via MilanNews.it), Rangnick wants to have full power at Milan and this puts Maldini’s future at risk. The German would most likely get the role as sporting director and manager.

A few months back, per the reporter, Maldini rejected Rangnick as he didn’t believe he was the right profile for the club. This makes the situation even more interesting, but it’s clear that the legend’s presence is important.

Therefore, it’s possible that Elliott could offer Maldini a new role, similar to that of Pavel Nedved at Juventus and Javier Zanetti at Inter. That way, he would still be an important reference point.
