Milan have had a tough 2021 and after two consecutive defeats, they bounced back with a win last night against Benevento. And as Atalanta and Napoli drew, they still have a good chance of finishing in the top four.
There is still a lot of work to do for the Rossoneri, though, as they will take on Juventus next week. The win last night will surely act as a confidence boost, but the performance wasn’t flawless and there are still some things to improve.
Had they faced a better side last night, it’s not certain that they would have got away with all three points. Speaking on MilanTV (via MilanNews), journalist Luca Serafini spoke about Milan’s main issue right now and explained his thinking.
“We lost too many 1v1s, I keep saying that the problem is in the midfield. On an individual level, I liked both Tomori and Romagnoli. Calhanoglu has had some glimpses. In midfield, we now have some physical problems with Kessie and Bennacer, but I liked how Tonali entered the game,” he stated.
It remains to be seen if Stefano Pioli will give Franck Kessie and Ismael Bennacer the chance from start again on Sunday, especially since the latter didn’t impress. Perhaps Sandro Tonali could get the nod.
