MN: Initial plan binned as Donnarumma confrontation forces Maldini to change strategy

By Isak Möller -

Despite the win last night, the situation could be better at Milan as Paolo Maldini had to address the fans after a confrontation with Gigio Donnarumma yesterday. The renewal, therefore, continues to be a problem.

As highlighted by MilanNews, Maldini made it clear in an interview with ANSA (read here) that this can’t happen again as the players need to be protected. Above all, it comes at a very bad time as there are just four games left of the season.

Understandably so, though, the Rossoneri fans are tired of the Donnarumma renewal and the requests of the Milan ultras were clear: either renew or don’t play against Juventus, a team the goalkeeper could potentially join next season.

Maldini, on the other hand, made it clear that the negotiations for the renewals have been put on hold until the end of the season. If the initial idea was to resolve the situation as soon as possible, they are now entering a phase of reflection instead.

In the meantime, Maldini and Ricky Massara have identified the replacement if it comes to that: Mike Maignan of Lille. He has kept 19 clean sheets this season, more than any other goalkeeper in the top five European leagues.

  1. They should go for this Maignan before he or his team changes their mind after all we will have peace when he is to renew because Mino Raiola is not his agent
