Kjaer heaps praise on centre-back colleague Gabbia: “He reminds me of myself”

By Isak Möller -

At the start of the season, Simon Kjaer and Matteo Gabbia teamed up at the back to form the centre-back duo. Forced to play every game from start to finish, they impressed a lot and didn’t concede many goals.

When Alessio Romagnoli injured himself towards the end of last season, Gabbia stepped in and thus managed to build some chemistry with Kjaer before this term. The 21-year-old may not be a starter when Romagnoli is fit, but he has impressed.

In fact, some fans have even argued that he should start over the captain, seeing as the latter has failed to return to top form. Speaking to Gazzetta Dello Sport, as cited by MilanNews.it, Kjaer shared his thoughts on the youngster.

“Without a doubt, Matteo and I talk a lot, he reminds me of myself as a young man. He wants to learn and listens,” he stated.

Based on the start of this season, Gabbia has a bright future ahead and he has Kjaer to thank for it. The Dane, in spectacular form himself, has made it a lot easier for the youngster to slot into the team.
