Maignan describes emotions after UCL success: “I’m back playing for the Milan fans”

By Isak Möller -

Mike Maignan was a key player for AC Milan in the 0-0 draw against Tottenham this evening, which saw them through to the UCL quarter-finals thanks to an aggregate lead. After the game, he spoke to the media.

The Frenchman’s return has been very important lately for the Rossoneri and he certainly showed that tonight. In addition to being instrumental in the build-up, he made a huge save at the end and earned the MOTM in our player ratings.

Speaking to Sky Italia afterwards, as cited by MilanNews, Maignan explained what it has been like to return from his long calf injury. He also shared his thoughts on what it’s like to play UCL football with a club like Milan.

On the win…

“I’m happy, an evening that we have prepared very well and with a lot of concentration. I’m also pleased because I’m back playing for the Milan fans and for the club. We have the UCL goal every year and it’s been a long time since we’ve played at this level.”

On the atmosphere of the Champions League at Milanello…

“As soon as I arrived at Casa Milan, I saw the trophies in the museum and everyone in Europe knows what Milan mean in the Champions League.”

It remains to be seen who Milan will face in the quarter-finals. The draw will take place next week on Friday and potential opponents include Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Benfica and others (those legs will be decided next week).

Ummm I thought for the quarters it can be any team possible? Am I wrong?

    1. Yes it can be any team.

Those are the teams that have qualified so far. We have to wait and see what other teams qualify after the second legs next week.

  2. Grazie Mike, non abbiamo mai dubitato un attimo delle tue capacità di portiere, ci fa piacere vederti davanti a quella porta, siamo molto fortunati ad averti Forza MILAN!!

  3. I hope we can face Benfica, Inter Milan, or Chelsea. Let’s go boys!

With mike and Thiaw – Tomori – Kalulu – Theo – Saele/Junior, with Tonali and Benacer protecting attack from midfield, we play a very modern catenaccio

Thank you for making defending fun again

    1. Be careful what you wish for when it comes to Benfica. We rarely play well vs Portuguese teams. We barely beat Rio Ave and Porto easy took 4 points from us last season. Benfica along with Bayern and Napoli have been the most impressive teams so far in the UCL.
Also, our players might not be ready for that atmosphere in Lisbon
