Maldini discusses RedBird’s takeover of Milan and praises De Ketelaere

By Isak Möller -

Ahead of the big clash between AC Milan and Inter this evening, Paolo Maldini spoke to the media about the Rossoneri’s situation. It was an opportunity for him to share his thoughts on RedBird.

RedBird, led by Gerry Cardinale, have officially taken over the ownership of Milan from Elliott Management. This will be the first derby under the new ownership and the game, as special as it, will be extra special tonight.

Speaking to DAZN, as cited by MilanNews, Maldini shared his thoughts on RedBird and what he thinks this means for the future of Milan. He was also asked about the €35m signing Charles De Ketelaere, who has started well.

On the Scudetto…

“Last season was a triumphal one and we enjoyed what we have built. Our goal was not to give our all one year and then disappear, but rather to try to maintain this level and improve the goals.”

On the new ownership…

“The first feeling, speaking with them, is that they believe in a continuity of the project. They have shown it to us and they will certainly continue to do so. The project will continue to be a sustainable one, without big debts, doing the things that can be done. Don’t go beyond your means, I think it’s logical for those who manage a company in general to think like this, I don’t see why it shouldn’t be in football.”

On De Ketelaere…

“De Ketelaere has had experience in the Champions League, he’s a class player. The manager made these calculations in complete freedom and decided to go with De Ketelaere as the starter.”

The Rossoneri are hoping to win tonight not just because it’s the derby, but also because the clash against Sassuolo left them with a very bitter taste. An improvement is needed and tonight is the night to do it.
