CM: Mass summer clear-out could be on the cards for Milan as depth is questioned

By Oliver Fisher -

The AC Milan management could embark on a clear out during the summer window as questions continue to be asked about the quality of depth available to Stefano Pioli, a report claims.

Calciomercato.com report how Milan were worryingly outplayed in every area during the defeat against Fiorentina on Saturday night, with accusations being put forward that they were not fully focused given Wednesday’s Champions League match against Tottenham is looming.

The report states that without Rafael Leao, Milan are not a top-level team as he is a player who even on off-days is capable of creating something from nothing and providing a spark to drag an unbalanced attack through tough games.

The first alternative to the Portuguese forward is Ante Rebic and the Croatian is completely disconnected from the rest of the team. Then there is Divock Origi who simply has not got going since his arrival in the summer, while on the right flank Junior Messias and Alexis Saelemaekers are two players with guaranteed work rate but with are evident lacking from a technical point of view.

It also seems that Ismael Bennacer’s new reserve is Tiemoue Bakayoko based on the Monza and Fiorentina games, so the management will also have to ask some questions about Tommaso Pobega and Aster Vranckx who have vanished off radar.

In short, Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara will have to do some serious work on sales in the summer which is an area that they have not yet had a proper examination.

  1. So what’s the plan? Sell a bunch of players, bring others instead and hear Pioli say “they’re not ready to play yet” for the next 2 years?
How about we start with a new coach that knows how to integrate new players.

    1. Which players? How many new players did Pioli not integrate? We are talking since he came. How many players arrived and where are they playing? You’re an idiot, you made something up along with other idiots and you keep writing like that is a fact. It is your stupid idea, nothing else.

      1. Paqueta
        Hauge
        Bakayoko
        CDK
        Adli
        Vranckx
        Pobega
        Origi
        Dest
Some of them are probably not that good, but if as a coach you can only integrate 10% or less of the new players into the team, then you have a problem.
Calling people idiots won’t change this reality.

  2. I’d stick with Pobega, he’s similar to Tonali. But they do need to find an alternative to Bennacer. Houssem Aouar will be available on free and would be perfect to rotate with Bennacer.

    1. We don’t need an alternative to Bennacer, it would be a good option. What we NEED is a tough defensive box to box midfielder like Kessie to adequately screen the defense.

  3. Maldini, Massara and SALES.
    🤣🤣🤣
    The “sales” will be
    Tatarusanu, Mirante, Zlatan( probably resigning)
because their contracts are over at the end of the season
Bakayoko, Vranckx, Dest, Brahim, because there loans are over at the end of the season.
Rebic makes 3.5 mil a season till 2025. He isn’t getting that money from any team out there, so he is staying.
Origi makes 4 mil a season till 2026. Unless some dumb epl director wants to pay him that , he isn’t going anywhere either

    1. Unfortunately, this is probably close to the truth. I’m not sure if Rebic will be any better next season, but I’m still hoping Origi can make more of a contribution. Because of what you point out, our striker group for next season could very well be Giroud, Origi and Colombo. Can’t see 40-50m dropped on an attacker right now unless Leao leaves and then the money will be spent on his replacement, not a striker per se.

  4. AC Milan can only sell few player like saladmaker, ballo toure, leao ( if he refused extend) that are still young. For older or injury prone player no hope selling them like Rebic ( 30 years with 3,5m euro salary),Origi( often injury with 4m euro salary) , Kjaer ( old but low salary 1,5m euro) ,Calabria & Florenzi ( both are injury prone) . From sell 3 player saladmaker, ballo toure ,leao maybe they can get fund about 100m euro consist leao 80m euro , saladmaker 15m euro & ballo toure 5m euro

  5. 1. It is pretty obvious that if milan are to be considered as a top european team, there is no space for bakayoko, messias, saelemakers, krunic, gabbia, calabria, giroud, origi, rebic, ibrahimovic and diaz. Get rid of all of them and get 2 smart players especially a good striker who can score 18/20 goals per season.

    2. Get kessie back.

    3. Sell leao at the end of the season for highest offer. Remember he had to sign new contract before start of world cup – 3 months ago!!!!!! He is after money not milan …. let him have it!!!! After all he is absent for 85% of every game these days!!!!
