Mediaset: Gabbia set for first seasonal appearance – latest on Ibrahimovic and Giroud

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are set to use a particular centre-back pairing for the first time this season as they will rotate against Venezia, according to a report.

SportMediaset (via MilanNews) spoke this afternoon in the build-up to the game at San Siro confirming Olivier Giroud and Zlatan Ibrahimovic will not be available tonight against Venezia as the former has a back problem and the latter is recovering from Achilles tendon inflammation.

Stefano Pioli will field Matteo Gabbia alongside Alessio Romagnoli in what will be the first time the duo have been used together this season, while Fikayo Tomori will have a rest. In midfield Sandro Tonali will be the starter, and a debut could arrive for striker Pietro Pellegri.

Ibrahimovic’s recovery times are not yet clear, while Giroud is expected to be on the bench on Saturday against Spezia and return to the field against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League.

  1. Good, Gabbia has never had a bad game for us which is remarkable. In my opinion he is the future and should create a beautiful balance with Tomori for years to come if Romagnoli leaves this year. No need to search for another starter, Gabbia will impress, just give him time.
