Mediaset: Ibrahimovic and Gazidis at ‘crossroads’ – latest on Rangnick, Maldini and Emery

By Oliver Fisher -

The futures of both Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Paolo Maldini at AC Milan are up in the air, a report claims, with Ralf Rangnick asking for assurances.

According to SportMediaset journalist Claudio Raimondi (via MilanNews), the fate of Ibrahomovic will depend on a face-to-face meeting with CEO Ivan Gazidis, which remains on hold due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

There is a fundamental crossroads, because the final decision of Ibrahimovic will be strictly connected to the project that will be outlined by the South African CEO. The confirmation of Stefano Pioli as head coach would definitely be a factor to persuade the Swede, but the rumours seem to point in a completely different direction.

Ralf Rangnick remains the strong candidate to become the next head coach – the report claims – but he also wants full powers on the market and as long as there is no clarity on Paolo Maldini’s position, the German will keep Milan on edge.

For this reason, the chances of seeing Unai Emery take charge are increasing, with the Spaniard having been sacked by Arsenal last November. Gazidis met him for a few months in London and thinks about him still.
