Milan close to pulling plug on deal for Mateo Musacchio

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan have been heavily linked with a move for Villarreal defender Mateo Musacchio this summer.

Musacchio did not feature in Villarreal’s most recent pre-season friendly, sparking yet more speculation that his San Siro switch was imminent. He watched from the stands as the Yellow Submarine secured a 1-0 win over Hospitalet.

Milan’s CEO Adriano Galliani is understood to have had a series of meetings with Villarreal and Musacchio’s entourage in Ibiza, but have not yet managed to strike a deal.

Spanish newspaper AS state that the Rossoneri are currently €5m below the asking price of €30m.

There were also reports earlier in the week that Valencia had been in contact with the Diavolo to see if they wanted German international Shkodran Mustafi as an alternative.

Milan are in limbo at the moment until the final details of their big-money takeover by the Chinese consortium is completed, and as such cannot sign players without some being sold.

The most likely candidate remains Carlo Bacca, who has been linked with West Ham and Atletico Madrid, but if Milan play their cards right they may not have to sell anyone.
