AC Milan’s off-field priority is to secure Rafael Leao’s long term future at the club but confirmation of the deal is not around the corner, a report claims.
As has been reported by Tuttosport today (via Milan News), Leao’s contract expires in 2024 so it is not necessarily an urgent matter but his rapidly growing importance to the team means that the Rossoneri want to cover their backs.
Milan are keen to avoid the situation that occurred with players like Gianluigi Donnarumma, Hakan Calhanoglu and Franck Kessie who all left or are about to leave on free transfers.
Confirmation will not arrive any time soon though as there is still a legal battle ongoing with Leao’s former club, Sporting Lisbon, and the possible sale of Milan has stopped all market operations.
There is no suggestion that the player would turn down a new deal, there are just other obstacles in the way right now.
