MN: Probable Milan XI to face Verona – Maignan doubt and midfield changes

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan will take on Hellas Verona away from home tomorrow and with the break coming up, the Rossoneri will be looking to clinch another three points. Mike Maignan is the main doubt, having left the mid-week clash with an injury.

Milan advanced to the quarters of the Europa League after beating Slavia Praha 7-3 on aggregate. However, it was not all good news as Maignan was forced to end the game early with an injury. It’s nothing serious, but he’s still a doubt for tomorrow.

According to MilanNews, Maignan will most likely be able to start but the captain Davide Calabria, who also sustained a minor injury, should be on the bench. Alessandro Florenzi is back from suspension and will play instead, while Marco Sportiello will be ready in case the Frenchman cannot make it.

After starting both Yacine Adli and Yunus Musah against Slavia Praha, Pioli is expected to revert to the usual midfield of Ismael Bennacer and Tijjani Reijnders. Furthermore, Olivier Giroud could get some rest with Luka Jovic starting up front instead, hoping to find the back of the net after three games without a goal.

Probable Milan XI (4-2-3-1): Maignan; Florenzi, Thiaw, Tomori, Hernandez; Bennacer, Reijnders; Pulisic, Loftus-Cheek, Leao; Jovic.

    1. Kjaer was making many mistakes and causing goals. Tomori just got back from an injury. He obviously isn’t fully match fit after being out so long.

  1. I would have rather seen Gabbia pair Tomori.

Not sure I understand how Tomori is a busy? We play observably better when he is on the field.

I hope we can see OK4, Barts, etc al get some serious min in the second half.

    Milan 3-1

    Puli goal and assist
    Jovic scores and slaps nobody
    Leao assists
    Ok4 scores

  2. Also in the article it is mentioned “the usual midfield”

What is “usual” about our midfield this season? From the change 433 to 4231 to the mix and match of Reinjders, Adli then Benny coming back and some Musah mixed in here and there.

Seems to me this is a reason for our struggles (such as they are) this year. A bigger reason is, of course, the MASH unit of a CB staff.

So I’ll hope for Benny + Reinjders to become “usual” with Musah off the bench as a wrecking ball and Adli rotating to rest them all.

  3. The international break is around the corner. Start with the strong lineup, secure 2-3 goals, then sub them out. They can catch a break afterwards.
