MN: Renewals, signings, loans and exits – the future of Milan’s goalkeeping department

By Oliver Fisher -

It may not be the department that attracts the most headlines heading into the summer, but there is expected to be some movement among the goalkeepers currently at AC Milan.

MilanNews start their update by confirming that the official announcement of Marco Sportiello should come soon, given that the player’s contract has already been deposited and he will join on a free transfer from Atalanta to become the new deputy.

The management will begin work over the renewal of Mike Maignan soon too. The French goalkeeper’s contract expires in 2026 but there is no shortage of appreciation from top clubs from all over Europe, so Milan want to reward him with a pay rise to €5m net per season and an extension until June 2028.

Ciprian Tatarusanu will not stay at Milan, as the Romanian goalkeeper will depart when his contract expires after three seasons with the Rossoneri but he does so with a Scudetto and some important moments under his belt.

After making his debut for the Rossoneri against Hellas Verona last night, Antonio Mirante will renew for another season with Milan. He will remain as third goalkeeper behind Maignan and Sportiello, given he is home-grown and thus useful for squad lists.

Then there is Devis Vasquez and Andreas Jungdal. The former arrived in January from Club Guarani and Milan will be looking for a loan solution or a permanent sale to make a small capital gain.

Jungdal will return from his loan at Altach which was a far from positive spell for the 21-year-old Dane who made only six appearances in the league, then suffered an injury that made him lose his starting spot and was not even called-up for the last two games of the season.
