Official: AC Milan confirm that Matteo Gabbia has tested positive for COVID-19

Inter won’t be the only team with a defensive crisis in the derby, scheduled for next week. After both Alessandro Bastoni and Milan Skriniar tested positive for COVID, Matteo Gabbia has done the same.

The youngster is currently on international duty with Italy’s U21 side, where he tested positive for the virus, as confirmed by Milan. Bastoni was the first player to test positive in that squad, and it seems to have spread to other players now as well.

“AC Milan has been informed that Matteo Gabbia, currently with the Italy Under-21 national squad in Iceland, has tested positive for Covid-19,” the statement read.

Sandro Tonali is also with the U21 side and it remains to be seen if he has caught the virus as well. Between Milan and Inter, there are eight positive tests and the derby next week will certainly be interesting, should it go ahead.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has had it for more than two weeks now but is yet to test negative, meaning his presence for the big game is in doubt. If it continues like this, though, the whole game could be in doubt.
