Official: Milan duo starts for France against Denmark – Kjaer benched

By Isak Möller -

France will take on Denmark in the second round of the World Cup group stage in less than an hour. The starting XIs have been announced and the big surprise is that Simon Kjaer is on the bench.

Many Milan fans were looking forward to watching Simon Kjaer take on Olivier Giroud later today. However, that won’t be the case as Denmark manager Kasper Hjulmand has decided to start the centre-back on the bench.

Given how well Kjaer knows Giroud, it’s a bit surprising but perhaps you could argue that Giroud also knows the veteran’s weaknesses well. In addition to Giroud, Theo Hernandez will also play from start.

Kjaer’s physical condition hasn’t been the best since he returned from the serious knee injury and perhaps that has something to do with the selection. In any case, it should be a good game between two good teams. France are the favourites, though.
