Pioli apologises for reaction after Man Utd game but denies Solskjaer was the target

Milan were knocked out of the Europa League last night as Man Utd scored the only goal at San Siro, making the most of a mistake at the back. Stefano Pioli, the Rossoneri manager, was visibly disappointed after the game.

Mistakes and squandered chances cost Milan dearly as they played well up until the final third, where they could have done so much better. Frustrating for a manager, as the two-legged tie was dealt with nicely otherwise.

When Pioli left the San Siro turf last night, he was caught on camera just as he was expressing some unflattering thoughts for the Man Utd dugout. You can watch the incident here, which has been blown way out of proportion.

So much, in fact, that Pioli decided to issue an official apology as he spoke to ANSA (via Anto Vitiello) just a few minutes ago. He confirmed that the words were indeed not aimed at Ole Solskjaer but also apologised for his behaviour.

“I’m sorry for the reaction I had, it won’t happen again. I congratulated Solskjaer, I was angry with his assistant,” he stated.
